Learning: proofreader with a love of learning

I love learning new skills. All of my life I have been challenging myself. I took up figure skating when I was 22 and progressed to the women's ice hockey team: Blackburn Thunder! It still shocks people today when I tell them I used to play ice hockey.

After finishing my teacher training I decided to specialise in early years and continue my training by becoming an Early Years Professional. This extended my knowledge and experience to include children from birth up to school age. I loved being in the moment with a baby and seeing them smile when you share a magical moment together. I found the more information I had about where the children were coming from on their learning journey the more confident I was to plan for their next steps. The knowledge I gained about children's development gave me great insight into how they learn.

I feel empowered with knowledge and more confident when I learn new things.

Whilst studying Maths at University my friend was struggling with some of the concepts we were learning. I found by trying to explain the methods to her it helped consolidate my learning too. I have always enjoyed helping others and supporting them with their learning. Learning together is the best way. This is what I found when teaching children. By talking to the children and following their interests, we planned whole topics together. We were then on the same learning journey, discovering new ideas and exploring together. I found the children learnt more by being involved in their learning and were more focused.

It is important that children relate to others as part of a community who enjoy learning.

My favourite new skill is dancing! I have been taking Latin and Ballroom dance classes for a while. Now I have reached that moment when I feel confident to go out dancing socially to an actual dance. My highlight being dancing at Blackpool Tower, just like being on strictly! So start learning a new skill, you never know where you'll end up.

During my training on proofreading, I have consolidated my previous knowledge and learnt new skills. I will continue my blog to share my knowledge of proofreading with you, to empower you. I love sharing my learning and supporting others.

So believe in yourself and keep on learning!
