What factors make the price go up and down?

A quote for a proofreading project is based on how many words you need proofreading and how soon you need it. For example, I charge per 1000 words. Though if you need the project finished with a short deadline and that will involve me working over weekends and evenings I will charge double my usual rate.

A quote can also be affected by how much intervention is needed. I may ask for a sample of your project to see what support you need and this may affect the quote. The more comments I need to write the longer it will take me, therefore the more I will charge.

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and there is a suggested minimum rate. Check out their rates below or for more information on how proofreaders arise at their rates visit their website

How long does proofreading take?

The time has similar factors as to the price: how many words and how much intervention is needed. An estimate would be 500 words per hour.

Here are some real-life examples:

I can proofread a 2,000 word essay for the next day.

I can proofread a 4,000 word business website in 2 days.

I can proofread a 11,000 word educational magazine in 4 days.

I can proofread a 15,000 word dissertation in 5 days.

I can proofread a 50,000 word guidebook in 7 days for a publisher.

How do I pay for proofreading?

When I have finished proofreading your project I will send an invoice with all the payment details and you have 30 days to settle the balance. I accept a bank transfer or you can pay via PayPal.
